When I released Heartbeat Here Now, something didn’t feel right. I was extremely happy with the piece and how it turned out, but I realized that there was a framework of understanding that needed to be established to truly highlight how such work is important for this moment in our society.
That context is modern society itself and its complicated relationship with the incredibly rapid advancement of technology. This pace is quickly bringing us to a place of total commodification, and transactionality to our experiences and interpersonal interactions, a phenomenon extremely well-represented by (and partially driven by) the proliferation of Web3 and related technologies.
Through many hours spent in Clubhouse rooms and Twitter spaces, I found a wide array of perspectives on these technologies (in particular the burgeoning NFT art market) that provided a level of nuance that I wasn’t finding from most sources.
My exploration of this topic eventually became “do u believe?”, a website to explore how this technology has impacted society, and how it is poised to do so in the future.
